I was responsible for all the design and photography for Dirty throughout the ’90s, so it’s nice to see an old image cropping up! We were doing ads weekly at the time, as well as catalogues. They no longer have a mail order side but still have 2 stores (I think they’ve had about ten or so over the years?), one in Huyton and one, the flagship store, in Liverpool’s city centre. Still designing for them too!

One of my all time favourites also. 95-96 really was a vintage season for Newcastle United we had the best team and the best kits in the league (still won nothing though).

I still have the top, though the shorts and socks seem to have disapeared. I still wear it as well a testament to adidas quality and I like to think my ability not to balloon in weight during my 30’s !

Dirty Sports is based in Liverpool, where they still have a few stores.

I noticed that as well AA – I’m no financial expert (as my bank statement will testify) but I think you’re right in that the real price has actually gone down. Probably had something to do with the price rigging scandals that cropped up a few years back.

Interesting that the prices went up only by roughly 5 quid in 15 years. With the inflation and the sterling gone down it actually means a notable decline in “real” price unless I am wrong?

While this was certainly one of the better Newcastle away shirts, I personally thought it was outshone by the home one, which is long acknowleged as a classic.

Love that ad John! The pictures were taken by adidas and there are more of them in the Back and White magazine. If I can get to them anytime soon I’ll let you know. There are some similar pics for the home kit too. You are right about the goalie shirts there Dave. I think the one Srnicek is wearing was also worn with a Liverpool badge in the same season?

In the top right corner, you can see the Newcastle goalkeeper kit. I believe being modelled by Pavel Srnicek.

What was up with the goalkeeper kit in the mid-to-late 1990’s?

They were such a mess. It was often hard to describe them to people, due to the random colours and patterns!

As for the Newcastle 95-96 away strip. Personally, I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I think it’s okay. But each to their own, I guess.

Hello Denis, for some reason I’ve never heard of them. I just kept the ad for the glorious pic of the kit. Makes a change doesn’t it from the rather repetitive kit launch photos seen nowadays?
