Scottish Football Association Website

As I’m sure most of you know, when it comes to international football my tendencies swing north of the border (thanks to my Glasgow-born Dad) so it was a great pleasure for me to be asked to contribute my kit illustrations to the new Scottish Football Association website that was launched  today (March 9th) to coincide with the release of the rather smart new Scotland away kit.

At the moment the illustrations from the 80s, 90s and 00s can be found on the site but ALL the kits worn since 1872 will be added shortly.

Check them out at:

  1. Very impressive John. The 93 -94 Away kit has to be one of the best kits of all time. Keep up the good work.

  2. Does that include the new away kit as well?

I sense negative vibes about that kit; new kit in a big game AND the last time Scotland worn a white kit with navy trim in Holland they didn’t do too well to put it mildly.

  3. Maybe we should campaign for the other British FAs to commission you to do the same for them. I see that Umbro are using old pictures of England kits as part of their campaign.

  4. Hello Amir, thanks for your comments! By all means, please campaign the other British FAs as well – cheers! Yes, the Scotland kits will include the aways. I hope you’re negative vibes don’t come to fruition – the Holland game is going to be tough…

  5. Hi

what a great site. wow… i am a collector of scottish football shirts, i have every shirt since 1978 except the white umbro away shirt from 1978 (Maybie you have a idee where i can find this.:-)). Know i have picture for my collection, great for me, many thanks. Do you have pictures from the 70s too? i am very impressed. Greetings from switzerland, Marius

  6. Thanks everyone – I’m hoping the earlier kits will be up soon as well. First kit I had was the Argentina 78 Umbro diamond kit – now long gone. The earliest one I still have is the 85-88 home kit – I can still get into it but I guarantee you, its not a pleasant sight!

  7. I also own the 85 – 88 kits: both home and away, shirts, shorts and socks, and with the World Cup 86 extra detailing around the badge. Unfortunately, there is no way I can get into the kits now, given that I was only 10 at the time of the WC!

  8. Hello Graeme, so you have the infamous ‘banded’ shorts? A collectors item. I remember defending them til I was blue in the face at the time as I couldn’t bear anyone criticising the Scotland kit!

  9. Yep – the home shorts were white with a blue band, while the away ones were blue with a yellow band. It’s probably one of my favourite Scotland kits, mainly because 1986 is the first World Cup I can actually remember watching. I still cry when I hear the name “Preben Elkjaer”.

  10. I know what you mean Graeme, I still wince every time I think of one of the Uruguay team kicking one of our boys up in the air! Remember Strachan’s attempt to scale the advertising board after he scored against Germany? I was always disappointed Hansen and Dalglish didn’t make it to Mexico.
