  1. Ah, the mid 90’s! Not great, true, but just about able to tell them apart. Spurs were still using that all yellow third from three seasons earlier, though, so why they couldn’t have worn that is a bit of a mystery. Just reminded me (with a shudder) about those hideously OTT club jackets that Umbro made (and I think the adidas ones were just as bad!).

  2. Ah the 90s tracksuits and jackets! Yes they were incredible. About 8 sizes too big, with large panels and splashes of colour. It was like lots of large fabric offcuts had been sewn together during a school project and then been emblazoned with branding. Training in one must have been like wearing a wet tent!

  3. Exactly! Poor old Jurgen looked like he was being swallowed by his on that clip! The 90’s training T-Shirts weren’t bad, but jackets, tracksuits and sweaters made for the clubs were hideous…In the strips themselves I usually defend adidas but I can’t here – I remember a clip of Collymore at Liverpool in 95/96 sitting on the bench with a 3/4 length version on that was just like a mattress with a zip, and Keegan in the same season (I seem to remember it was one of the 4-3 losses against Liverpool) trying to instruct the players with his hands barely visible! Horrific!

  4. I know I opened a can of worms before, but Mainz are playing Freiburg today; Mainz in red/ white / red, Freiburg in all green with red trim. I still think red v green is not ideal, especially with red as a trim colour. Compounding the issue is the mottled effect fabric used on the Freiburg kit; it makes the whole thing quite dark. But for Mainz playing in white shorts I think this would cause huge problems. SCF have a white and black third strip, too. Why not use that?

  5. No, it’s not colour blindness, but as I said on here before, red v green can look similar when paired with dark trim. It’s not the colour as such, more the tone.

Re Bayern shorts – officially the red pair is the change colour, though not sure why it was worn against Dortmund. I think we look better in all red anyway – since switching to primarily red strips in 1965 we have used white shorts in only a handful of seasons since then.
